BIO

Talya Brookman is a Sydney-based artist, born in London and raised between Sydney and Los Angeles. Talya studied Fine Arts at the Pratt Institute in New York .

As a child, Talya compulsively doodled with interconnected lines and shapes. Over the years the doodles have formalised into the organic landscapes which are now typical of her work. When painting Talya visualises objects and forms not founded in reality but with depth and dimension that ground them in space. Her pieces depict natural elements such as cells, veins, roots and a concept of what exists within. She paints with a variety of mediums, with a focus on large scale oils and watercolours.

Part of Talya’s nature is striving for an ideal, bringing order to chaos. Each of her artworks reflect this process, with pieces initiating with a random application of colour and from there building form and structure based on the initial subtle shapes and zones.

Since 2000 her art has been internationally exhibited, and is included in a number of established private collections.
